Gardeners' Forum Welsh Night

Eighteen members of the Gardeners’ Forum attended the Welsh Night themed supper at the Forman Hall on, appropriately enough, the 1st March, St David’s Day.

The Forman Hall was decorated with Welsh flags and daffodils and lots of posters and a video depicting the beauty of Wales.  Welsh music, including many examples of Welsh Male Voice Choirs, provided background music to drinks before the group sat down to a feast of goats cheese and caramelised onion tart followed by Welsh cowl, chicken and leek hotpot and to round the meal off Bara Brith bread and butter pudding.

Between the courses Alan Bone produced a fun quiz which provided some lively entertainment and head scratching!  The winning team was eventually declared as Audrey Bone (Alan assured everyone Audrey did not know the answers!), Tizza Plumbe, Tom and Judith Hutchinson.  Each of the winners was presented with a packet of Flanders Poppy seeds to commemorate the First World War.

After the meal Donald Knox, Forum member and bee keeper, gave a short informative talk about the current problems facing the honey bee and how gardeners can attract bees into the garden.

Just wanted to say how great we thought the plant swap was on Tuesday. We picked up some very interesting specimens, unfortunately some names of which we have already forgotten. This will mean some interesting developments in the garden as they mature.

We hope other G.F. members felt the same, combining with the Library visit made it a very sociable event.

We look forward to this being repeated.
