Scottish Borders Council have released the following statement in relation to the works currently being undertaken on Martins Bridge. An extension of three weeks is required to the works at Martin's Bridge in the Borthwick Valley. Works to strengthen and refurbish the bridge to ensure its structural integrity for future years has progressed well. Part of the project involves re-routing some water pipes which run across the bridge, for which specialist parts are being sourced from abroad. This work, together with an additional week for reinstatement work, means that the B711 will remain closed until Monday 22 July.
Councillor Gordon Edgar, Executive Member for Roads and Infrastructure added: "We are very pleased with the progress of the works to date during what was a very intricate stage of the project. Now that the strengthening part of the works has been completed, we will continue by concentrating on the masonry refurbishment which, with the tented scaffolding that we have erected, should not be held up by any inclement weather."
A Scottish Water spokesman said: "Scottish Water is assisting with this project by diverting some water pipes which run across the bridge. We have been sourcing suitable fittings for this work, which will completed as soon as possible."
