Despite the fact that winter is upon us and at the moment for most of us, gardening consists of reading seed catalogues and planning for the spring, the GF Committee have been thinking of events for 2018. Further details of each event will be circulated nearer the time, but in the meantime please put the following dates in your diaries:
The February Supper is still as popular as ever and it will take place this year on Saturday 24th February. The theme will be Indian Fusion, we will, of course, supply the necessary recipes for the event. Further details, including the competition, will be circulated soon.
The much-loved Safari Supper will take a break during 2018 and will be replaced with a bring and share summer supper, based on the successful picnic at Wells Old Lodge last summer. We shall be visiting Daniele and Bill Friell at Meadshaw and bringing food to share. This event will take place on Saturday 16th June following the Plant Swap earlier in the day.
The Plant Swap will take place on Saturday 16th June at the Forman Hall and will include a coffee morning open to all valley residents.
Garden Visit. This year we hope to visit Mertoun House, St Boswells and hold a bring and share picnic by the river beforehand. The date will be confirmed later in the year.
The Harvest Supper will be held on Sunday 7th October in the Forman Hall.
Christmas Drinks will be hosted by Alan and Audrey Bone at their home in Hawick on Saturday 15th December.
The GF committee have agreed to tidy up the churchyard and made a start by spreading gravel on the path from the gate to the church door. We hope to continue this work during 2018 as well as tending to the community orchard. Further details of the working parties will be announced in due course. They are a fun activity, nothing too strenuous, and refreshments are always served, so if you haven’t been to a working party and can spare the time do come and join us.
