Forman Hall

200 Club

The ‘200 Club’ began in the 1980’s as a fund-raising scheme for the Forman Memorial Hall.  In that time, it has contributed around £400 every year towards the upkeep of the Hall.

This year we are doing things differently.

The new ‘200 Club’ will be relaunched in April this year with bigger and better prizes!

Members will each pay £10 per year to become a member of the club. (That’s less than £1 per month).  Each member is then assigned a number (from 1 through to 200) and will be given a ticket valid from April 2018 to March 2019.

Mind and Body Workout

Our popular mind and body workout class will continue on Thursday 22 October beginning at 6:45.  At 8:00 we share refreshments and chat! Loose, comfy clothing is best and bring a yoga mat if you have one. The cost remains at £5.00 per class. Good luck with your Salutations to the Sun, everyone.  Contact 880256 for more information.

Children's Easter Event

A family Easter event for nursery and primary school age children will take place on Sunday 12 April from 2:00 to 3:30. There will be a mini Easter egg hunt, games, crafts and light refreshments will be on offer. The cost will be by donation. In order to book a place and avoid disappointment please phone 880256 asap.

Composting event at the Forman Memorial Hall

The Forman Memorial Hall has agreed to host a variety of energy saving events thrpoughout this year.  The next event is a composting event planned for 16th August beween 11:00 and 3:00.  This is to be hosted by Dave and Jane Allan from ASK organics who are based near Bonchester Bridge, www.askorganic.co.uk.  They have in mind two themes.  The first is - why make compost and the best ways of making good compost.  Secondly, they will deal with autumn clearings, incluiding the use of a shredder.  They can also demonstrate using a ordinary rotary mower for shredding green herbaceous material.  So why not drop in during the day or join a planned workshop.  There will be refreshments on sale during the day.

Mobile Library

The Mobile Library will be calling at the Forman Hall on Tuesday 29th April at approximately 10.00 a.m.  Tea, coffee and a selection of home baking will be served beforehand.  If you're not a member of  the library the librarian has membership forms available.

Please come and join us, you will be very welcome.

Mobile Library visit to Forman Hall

The Mobile Library has agreed to make an extra stop during its round of the Borthwick Water. Please see the diary dates for dates of visits.  The next planned visit is Tuesday 25th February between 10:00 and 11:00 am.  The librarian is excellent and can sign folk up on the day!  He will also try to access requested books from other libraries in the region.

We would be pleased if folk could drop by - I’ll put the kettle for a chat and a cuppa.

Forman Memorial Hall Celebration

Our Hall celebrated its 90th birthday on Saturday June 29th with a BBQ and live music.  Many folk worked tirelessly behind the scenes to guarantee its success.  During the evening Pat Campbell-Fraser formally thanked Madge Anderson for her sterling work over the years as Hall Secretary. Following a champagne toast Madge was presented with a beautiful piece of art glass, flowers and vouchers from the committee and friends.  Following the BBQ there was live music and many thanks go to Stuart Anderson, Miwa Apthorp, Patrick Friell and Donald Knox.

Cream Teas

The ever popular cream teas took place during the Sunday afternoons of July 28th and August 4th and raised £469 towards Hall funds.  These teas have been fully organised ably and efficiently by Cathie Campbell for many years.  Sadly Cathie had decided that this would be her last year in this role.  We all recognise the huge commitment she has made over the years and say thank you.  I am sure that the Cream Teas will remain securely on our Community calendar.
