Work at Martin's Bridge

We will soon begin building the Langhope Rig wind farm.  There will be ten turbines each with a blade tip height of 121 m.  The project involves the construction of the turbines, approximately 13 km of access tracks, a welfare building and a met mast.  There will be a temporary compound, borrow pits and other associated works.  Main construction will begin this coming autumn with completion anticipated toward the end of 2014.

Construction deliveries of plant, materials and concrete etc. will begin in autumn 2013.  During the construction phase there will be varying levels of vehicle movements depending on the work being undertaken at the time.  Where a significant increase in movements is required (for example during concrete pours) we will notify local community councils and send an email out to those who have joined our project notification list giving as much notice as possible.

Turbine component deliveries are expected to begin in spring/summer 2014.  Once the delivery dates are confirmed, we will publish a delivery schedule to local community councils and send it by email to residents on our notification list.  Turbine components are delivered by road using abnormal load delivery vehicles under the supervision of a Police escort with every effort being made to keep any disruption to a minimum.  Our contractors plan to undertake a trial run in September (date to be confirmed).  The Police escorted trial run involves an unladen abnormal load vehicle simulating delivery of the largest component to ensure that deliveries next year can be made without any issues.  The vehicles will travel from the A68 on the A698 passing through Denholm and Hawick before joining the A7 to its junction with the B711.  They then join the B711 passing through Roberton to the site.  We will inform local community councils and email residents as soon as we have the trial run schedule.
