Langhope Rig wind farm acquired by GE Energy Financial Services

SSE has today announced plans to sell the 16-megawatt Langhope Rig wind farm situated near Hawick, to GE’s energy investing unit, GE Energy Financial Services. The deal will see ownership and operation of the 10 turbine wind farm, which is currently under construction, transferred to GE when the project completes in spring 2015. Until then SSE will continue to finalise the build until the project is handed over to GE. Our press release on the announcement can be accessed here: http://sse.com/newsandviews/allarticles/2015/03/langhope-rig-wind-farm-a...

Our agreement with GE represents the latest step in a programme of acquisitions and disposals to optimise our wind farm portfolio. The proceeds from the disposal of Langhope Rig will help to support our investment in new renewable assets.

Under the agreement, the £5,000 per megawatt community investment fund associated with the project will be transferred over to GE to manage and will therefore be protected for the nearby communities hosting the wind farm. Further information regarding the management of the wind farm and ongoing administration of the fund following the transfer of the project will be communicated in due course.

On behalf of the Langhope Rig project team, myself and Matt would like to thank the local community for working so closely with us during the development and construction of the Langhope Rig project. In the meantime, please continue to direct any concerns or questions in relation to the project, fund and blade deliveries to myself from now until the handover in spring 2015.
