Community Council Meeting

David Anderson from Green Cottage, Harden has been appointed a Community Councillor.

Police Report

The snowdrop harvesting at Branxholme was found to be legitimate.  A tractor has been stolen from the wind farm site at Alemoor and the trailer discovered at Minto Woods.  Farm machinery has been stolen from around the Bonchester Bridge area and it is thought that people from Newton Aycliffe are responsible.  It appears that people are visiting farms making enquiries about scrap metal and returning later to steal items.  The Police suggest making a note of registration numbers of any suspicious vehicles.  An arsonist has been at work at Swinney Moor, Bonchester Bridge and Kirkton.  The new 101 number is in place and is being fine-tuned.

A7 Action Group

The representative thanked the CC for their donation towards costs.  The Action Group was formed in 1990 and they are currently creating a ten year future plan and requesting ideas from simple to expensive.  Repairs will be carried out to the A7 in Hawick from Buccleuch Road to Albert Bridge during October, possibly during half term.

The owners of the log cabin in Craik will be issued with a notice to remove it.

SBC have still not replied to the CC confirmation that they would like to form a Resilience Community Scheme and a reminder is being sent.

Langhope Rig Wind Farm.

The goalposts have been moved with regard to the Community Benefit Fund and the maximum sum that the community can apply for is £10,000 per year.  SSE will review the situation every five years to see if it can be increased.  This sum cannot be aggregated as previously implied and index linking has been removed.  The size of the Panel deciding the grants has been reduced and will now only have nine members.  The period for submitting grants is October 2013 to 17 January 2014.

A concrete batching plant is to be erected on site and therefore reduce some of the traffic through the valley.  No response has been received from local businesses offering services.  SSE is, however, looking for properties to rent in the area.

Barrel Law

A Hearing is to be held in Selkirk on the 10th September 2013.
